TODAY, 46 years ago, a country was born.
I like this introduction to our story,We're only 46 today.
It's a holiday in Sabah today. Not much of a celebration because of the Ramadan. But prime minster Najib did make a personal statement (why personal when it's Malaysia Day?) describing the spirit of unity and harmony among the people of Sabah and Sarawak as a vibrant example of 1Malaysia.
Bernama (Malaysian National News Agency) reported Najib saying there were many examples in both states of how Malaysians of different racial, religious and ethnic roots "can come together around the many things that unit us, instead of allowing the few things that divide us to drive us apart."
"The story of Sabah and Sarawak is the story of 1Malaysia, and has informed and inspired my commitment to this concept.
"They are a testament to the fact that our differences unite this country."

as a journalist & sarawakian & having been in west malaysia as well, don't you think there is better racial harmony amongst east malaysians?
Doc, Yes, yes, and another resounding yes to your question! Najib himself said time and again that Malaysians need simply look to Sabah and Sarawak to gain an understanding of the incredibly strong and harmonious unity!
Log on to Najib's blog to read his "beautiful" blog post - though I am not sure what he meant by - when the sun rises over Malaysia, it shines first on Sabah and Sarawak.It sure does!
I really do take pride being a Sarawakian and now working in Sabah, and very much into Sabah's equally rich cultures!
i've stopped reading pro-govt blogs bcos i equate them to "spins", which is already freely available in the MSM.
if the sun rises on east m'sia, he has inadvertently implied that the sun is setting on west m'sia, which may be ominous.
I didn't know it's Malaysia Day today. Gosh! Where was I in the last decade - that's how long I've resided in this country and yet, only now am I aware of M Day.
I truly have not met anyone who's living supportively with regard to the government. You may be the first, Yan. :)
Hope that all the races in Malaysia can really live together happily and peacefully like what our PM is working on now... 1Malaysia!

That's the wisdom of King Solomon, not mine! Yes, governments are hard to live with, especially when it is headed by people who are incompetent, and even untrustworthy and weak.
Through sloth the roof sinks in,
and through indolence the house leaks. (Eccl 10:18)
So, people actually lay foundation for steadiness in a government, no matter what the leader is like. Without that, the roof falls in, the house leaks!
I like this wisdom also -
