Something Small from Something Big

I am in a conference talking about National Integration and United, Nation-State of Malaysia. It is big - from the name of the conference to the topics to the speakers and participants. The speakers are either academics or lawyers. I feel small here -

But, I picked up something big from something small looking through my own window.

One important factor that could hinder the progress of national integration in any society is the presence of the prejudicial mind. What is the root cause of prejudice?

A renowned scholar in the area of prejudice, Gordon Allport (1954) said that it is a learned behavior. In other words, prejudice and discrimination are not inherently born with.

Compare a child with an adult. Prejudice is absent in young children's minds.

Children pay less attention to the larger world. They pay more attention to the immediate surrounding that could make them happy such as playing with their friends and dining out with their families.
With so much human triumphs and failures, tragedies and suffering in the world today, perhaps we need to re-evaluate why prejudices have thickened in the hearts and souls of the adults and not the children?
