Four funerals in two weeks! Could this be the reason for gathering dust here in my cyber home?
It started with the home-calling of a dear colleague. I was at a dinner reception at Holiday Inn Kuching poolside in a journalists' conference when news came. It saddened me much. A friend who was at the conference was quick to put me at the right perspective by telling me that Yii had found a better home in Jesus. Yii accepted Christ after his first heart attack a year go and he lived his life in Christ and in Christ's family in the one year. As shared at his funeral, "He was a committed man, rain or shine, he lived his life to the fullest."
It was followed with three more funerals of elderly relatives and friends' mum. Much tears were shed by loved ones. Yet, it was comforting to hear -
"We are gathered together to pay our respects to one who has lived among us and has now departed this life."
Yes, we grieved over those to whom we must bid at least a temporary good-bye. But underlying everything else there is a great sense of triumph, of rejoicing that someone has finished his course and has entered into the glory which God has prepared. The full impact of Paul's word, "O grave, where is thy victory? O death where is thy sting?" (1 Corinthians 15:55 KJV), could be felt at the funerals.
They had just departed this life and enjoying an abundant entrance to another life!
The weeks ended with a company's dinner where I won a vacuum cleaner! What a timely reminder of much dusting to be done in my life! What joy, what splendor, what delight to be in the house of the Most High, dust-free!
"As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, O God."
- Psalm 42:1
