Three dolls

I don’t remember owning a doll when I was a little girl. Owning a doll or a toy was a luxury then.

But I remember many stories about dolls.

I had a “battle” to fight this morning. In my morning devotion, I asked for God’s wisdom in handling the situation. The Lord gave me this doll story -

A prince was presented with a set of three small dolls. (Oh, how blessed) But the prince was not amused. “Am I a girl that you give me dolls” he asked the sage who gave him the dolls.

But the man said the three small dolls befitted a future king. “Just look carefully, there is a hole in the ear of each doll.”

So? Don’t we all have a hole in each ear?

The sage handed the prince a piece of string. “Pass it through each doll,” he said.

Intrigued, the prince picked up the first doll and put the string into the ear. It came out from the other ear.

“This is one type of person, whatever you tell him, comes out from the other ear. He doesn’t retain anything.”

The prince pushed the string into the second doll. Out the string came out from the mouth.

“This is the second type of person, whatever you tell him, he tells everybody else.”

The string did not reappear when the prince pushed the string into the third doll.

“This is the third type of person, whatever you tell him is locked up within him. It never comes out.”

“What is the best type of person?” asked the prince.

The man handed him a fourth doll. When the prince put the string into the doll, it came out the other year.

“Do it again,” instructed the man.

The prince repeated the process. This time the string came out from the mouth. When he put the string the third time, it did not come out at all.

“This is the best type of person. To be trustworthy, a person must know when not to listen, when to remain silent and when to speak out.”

in our modern context, the appropriate figurine would be the see-hear-and-speak-no-evil monkeys.
